Todd referred to the fact that “Ernest’s vast research on mourning covers and his authorship of Mourning Covers: The Cultural and Postal History of Letters Edged in Black, Harbingers of Death, Messengers of Grief, the seminal work in this area of philately, was key to the foundation of our club four years ago.” Todd continued, “the Mosher Memorial Award will be bestowed annually on the author of the best article or contribution made in the preceding year to Mourning Notes, the club’s quarterly newsletter”.
“The club’s board is pleased to present the 2010 Mosher award jointly to Paul Bearer of California and Elmer Cleary of Montreal, Canada for contributions made by each author over the course of the past three years, since the publication of Mourning Notes’ first issue. Both have written entertaining and enlightening articles in each issue and are well-deserving of the award,” said Todd. Each of the winners will receive an original art print, numbered and signed by Inuit artist Therese Ukaliannuk. The artist’s work has been shown in a number of Canadian art galleries.
